Reflexíon del Espíritu

Carlos García Noriega Bueno

October 2022 - December 2022

Six years have passed since the creation of my first pieces reflecting on the relationship between Mexico and the United States. The works represent collaboration, respect, and dialogue, something I consider important between neighbors. The world has since polarized further. Issues that seemed from another era are resurfacing. New challenges have emerged and the loss of natural lives and human values have accelerated. My output has always gravitated towards positive conversation: There must be a force pulling on that direction. My personal search aims toward a more wholesome existence, a continuous project that will transcend with my spirit. The pieces celebrate souls that although physically absent have evolved and will hopefully guide us on a more balanced journey.”

Born in 1983 in Mexico City, Carlos García Noriega Bueno is an architect graduate from RMIT University of Melbourne, Australia. His training in architecture brought him closer to the world of sculpture. His fascination for this artistic discipline plus his avid experience as an architect has made him the renowned artist he is today. His foray into sculpture and the arts began as catharsis; expressing, confronting and making peace with the epileptic condition that he maintained from age 12 to age 21. This phase in his life, while complex and challenging, led him to explore different means and forms to project himself in an abstract and geometric way, which, in turn, is the most natural way to manifest his work. Taking this introspective perspective as a starting point, Carlos sees himself as part of a community and has a genuine attraction to events with direct social, political and environmental effects. His work has led him to investigate universal issues such as the extinction of bees, the global situation of refugees, borders, native communities, and sacred rituals where the resilience and spirit of species results in a motivation to continue living and creating. Thus, through his pieces, he seeks to generate this same introspection within the viewer, and channel their attention to an opportunity to generate awareness and reflection
